Meet our Parish Priest, Fr Jerald Cecil Mariadas
Fr Jerald
Fr Jerald is a diocesan priest and comes to us from an Indian diocese called Sultanpet. His calling to the priesthood goes back childhood. His late uncle, Fr. Carmel Irudhayam, was a strong source of inspiration to the priesthood. Having entered the seminary at the age of 16 and while he underwent formation, Fr Jerald completed his secondary and Bachelor Degree in management studies too. He began his philosophical and theological studies at St. Peter’s pontifical Seminary, Bangalore where he discerned his motto and vocation is “to transform and to be transformed”. He was ordained as a priest on May 3rd 2009.
Having served two years in his diocese as an assistant priest at the Cathedral and secretary to his Bishop a year respectively, he accepted an offer to take up his ministry in the Archdiocese of Melbourne 2011. During his stay in Melbourne he assisted at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and St. Augustine church for a year. He then served as assistant priest at St. Macartan’s Parish in Mornington for 19 months and was appointed priest pastoral co coordinator at OLOP, Donvale in June 2014.
In January of 2015 Fr Jerald was asked to become Administrator of Ss Peter and Paul’s Church in Doncaster East. During this time, he was offered the assistance of an Assistant Priest , Fr Peter Tran. In January of 2016, Fr Peter was asked to become administrator of St Scholastica’s in Bennetswood. This meant that Fr Jerald now has to look after Our Lady of the Pines and Ss Peter and Paul’s Parish. Fr Jerald is now permanently sited at Ss Peter and Paul’s Parish, while still looking after the welfare of the parishioners at Our Lady of the Pines.
In May of 2016 Fr Jerald was officially appointed as Parish Priest of Our Lady of the Pines and Ss Peter and Paul’s and on the 10th of September 2016 , he was officially installed as Parish Priest for the partnered parishes at a ceremony officiated by his Grace Archbishop Denis Hart .
Please Pray for Fr Jerald as he administers to both parishes.
